A More Functional Kitchen

An open kitchen with better flow, practical storage, and an island made for everyday life.

Location
Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi
Scope
Layout · Cabinetry · Materials · Lighting · Pantry
Completed Oʻahu kitchen with warm wood cabinetry, charcoal lower cabinets, island, and pendant lighting

Where we started

A better flow.
Storage that works.

The original kitchen was enclosed by walls. Opening it to the adjoining room improved the flow and made space for deep drawers and pull-out pantry storage.

Open pantry cabinetry with tiered pull-out shelves and organized food storage around the refrigerator

The pantry

Easy to see.
Easy to reach.

Pull-out pantry shelves make the full depth of each cabinet easy to use.

Open kitchen after the enclosing walls were removed, with clear circulation between the island and cabinetry
Open layout

Removing the walls created a more open kitchen with better flow.

Deep pull-out kitchen drawers organized with everyday plates and bowls
Pull-out storage

Deep drawers keep everyday dishes easy to see and reach.
